Tarka hímzés / Coloured embroidery

Ha azt mondom, hogy matyó hímzés, azt hiszem, legtöbben a dúsan hímzett színes, ragyogó textilekre gondolnak. A 20. század elején teljesen kiszínesedett a matyó hímzés, 8-10 színt is használtak, pamut- vagy selyemfonalakból,
ingek, kötények, később a polgári lakásokat díszítő darabok hímzésekor. A saját használatra szánt daraboknál a fő motívumok mindig pirosak, sok zöld ággal, levéllel, és az ezeket kiegészítő kisebb, színes motívumokkal, ahogy azt az asszonyok a virágoskertekben látták.

When I say Matyó embroidery, I think most people will think of the richly embroidered colourful, bright textiles. In the beginning of the 20th century, Matyó embroidery turned completely colourful, using 8-10 colours and cotton or silk threads, to embroider shirts, aprons and later pieces to decorate upper middle-class homes. On pieces for personal use, the main motifs were always red, with many green branches and leaves, and smaller, colourful motifs to complement them, as seen in the flower gardens of the women.
